i have a compaq computer i bought 2 years ago that has 1024 mb of ddr ram a geforce 4 ti4600 graphics card and 1.5 ghz proccesor. I thought that the graphics card and ram would make games run better but my comp still runs like shit. is their anything i can do to it to make it run games better besides just buying a new comp.

It does not matter if It is a compaq or not.

It should run decent with the specs above.

Do you Defrag your computer at all? If so how often.

Have you Installed all the latest Video drivers.
NVIDIA put out a new one in Oct (i think)
Do you use DX 9?

My comp is by far more of a POS than yous and it runs most apps and games I play smooth.

AMD Athlon XP 1700+
640MB DDR ram
Gforce 4 MX420 64mb(stfu it was cheap!)
40gig HDD
10gig HDD (for music and stuff)

Windows XP pro (from r00ts server)
(this computer "was" an eMachine)
now it's a pMachine

It's never the computers fault. Only the owners!

It kinda does. Compaq uses really, really s****y motherboards that probably take a dump if the firmware is not up to date.

and your saying eMachine don't use s****y Mobos

My Mobo is a AM35 lol..

I was on a budget at the time.....But I rarely Have a problem with my computer.

My Grandfather got a compaq this year as his first computer ever.

It has almost the same shit as the emachine inside.

It runs ok unless my Aunt uses it. She ends up downloading all kinds of shit and it f***s the comp up.

anything under 5900 couldn't outperform a ti4200 or even several gf3s, also the fact that nvidia has gone to total shit with detonator drivers putting them out purely for 3dmark scores rather than improving games.
