Truly sad and weird. Sad

Quote:
When Jerald Spangenberg collapsed and died in the middle of a quest in an online game, his daughter embarked on a quest of her own: to let her father's gaming friends know that he hadn't just decided to desert them.

It wasn't easy, because she didn't have her father's "World of Warcraft" password and the game's publisher couldn't help her. Eventually, Melissa Allen Spangenberg reached her father's friends by asking around online for the "guild" he belonged to.

Someone vanished from a guild that we had an alliance with, never showed up to a raid that he had been signed up for and this had never happened before. 3 weeks later his brother logged onto his account asking if any of us knew where he was as he has been missing ever since. Mystery was never solved as far as we knew. No follow up from his brother and his account has been inactive.

Yup, great guy too very nice.
I really like the idea with the death email to your online pals. It has been a concern of mine for awhile as to what I would do if I happend to get mowed down by a drunk driver or something. My family and most friends don't have contact with the people I have contact with online.

For example if I was to die tonight (... i hope not...) the only person who knows I am active on RealPoor is the girlfriend (i have suggested to others but they didn't bite) and the last thing she would think of doing upon my death is to create an account to make a "RRich is dead" post.

lol I often wondered about this. haha. How would my mmo friends know I died? ....hmmm, if he died at the computer whilst raiding couldnt she have just been like....'this is *** daughter, he just died in RL'
actually....perhaps they werent in the right mind to consider that having found him dead.... truly is dedicated to his game....I think my boyfriend would love to die whilst in the middle of the game.
lol, forget that too, he'd be too bummed that he didnt get to see what dropped, or who killed the tower first in dota.

I've actually pondered about this myself. None of my MMORPG friends would ever know, because I keep my MMORPG accounts and passwords pretty secret. However, all of my IRC and forum friends I usually frequent would eventually find out due to 5th or 6th level social connections, I guess. Something along the lines of my parents know a good rl friend of mine who knows a girl who knows a forum visitor, so eventually the info of my demise would be known. : )

Sad that online people are what resolves it. You'd think he'd know enough people in real life to come find him.
